Dos citas puritanas sobre la aflicción

Take note that when men oppress and persecute most unjustly, yet there is cause to justify God in suffering it to be so. God’s justice is executed upon us by their injustice; if men falsely accuse us, yet God can truly charge us. When Job has to deal with men, he maintains his integrity against their accusations, Job 27:4-6, but when he has to deal with God, he acknowledges his sin, and will not stand upon his own justification; he will not plead but supplicate.

Advertid que cuando los hombres oprimen y persiguen muy injustamente, sin embargo, hay razón para justificar a Dios al permitirlo. It is one heart-quieting consideration in all the afflictions that befall us, that God has a special hand in them: “The Almighty has afflicted me.” Instruments can no more stir still God gives them a commission, than the axe can cut of itself without a hand. Job eyed God in his affliction: therefore, as Augustine observes, he does not say, “The Lord gave, and the devil took away,” but “The Lord has taken away.”

Es una consideración tranquilizadora en todas las aflicciones que nos acontecen, que Dios tiene un control especial de ellas: “El Todopoderoso me ha afligido”. Al igual que el hacha no puede cortar por sí misma sin una mano, los instrumentos no pueden actuar hasta que Dios les da una comisión,. Job vio a Dios en su aflicción.
